So this is my first post on my latest blog. Really it’s my third full-blown blog. My first was The Goblin’s Lair, which I kept from 2005-2006. It was mostly about politics, but I generally felt free to go off on whatever tangent interested me at the moment. When I started law school, the flames of my fiery liberal ideology burned out (I tell people law school gave me a passionectomy) and I found that I simply didn’t have much interest in writing about politics anymore. I still don’t.
Several months later, I got serious about finding God,and I started a blog focused on religion called Sailing to Byzantium. It had its moments, but I feel like I spent a lot of time basically just stuck in a rut and whining about it. I kept pretty focused and tried to only blog about religion, and for the most part I stuck to that. I kept it up for more than a year.
Why am I starting a new blog, then? First, I’m not so sure I want to write about religion all the time. I’m sure I could have just branched out and started writing about other things, but Sailing to Byzantium was created with a very specific focus in mind, and I’m not entirely sure I want to divert that purpose just for diversion’s own sake. Furthermore, while StB was a trusty, useful blog, I don’t necessarily feel like I even want to be that person anymore. I’m not sure I’m sailing the same way, metaphorically speaking, or toward the same destination. I’m also not sure I want to think the same way as I used to.
So here it is, a new start with a new blog. Expect it to be about whatever strikes me at the moment, and don’t expect it to chronicle my entire life or anything.
